I was only a toddler when the storm hit. We lived in Margate at that time, dead center between the ocean and the bay. My mother always told my sister and me that she was so worried my father might get killed (he didn't; he's 91 now!!) by wading through the water with downed power lines. Why did he do that? To get home to us, of course! My family survived it but never missed an occasion to tell non-islanders about the March '62 storm!
